Making connects us with skills, materials, traditions and one another. This growing collection of resources is intended to help people begin new projects, return to old ones, use what they already have and find the information they need along the way.

We are beginning with knitting and crochet resources for our October 2026 Sweater Weather Make Along.

Canadian Knit and Crochet Designers

Canada is home to an extraordinary community of independent knit and crochet designers. This curated list offers a starting point for finding sweater, cardigan, vest and tee patterns created by Canadian designers and available through Ravelry.

This is not intended to be an exhaustive list. We will continue adding designers and resources as the collection grows.

A Note About Ravelry

Most of the links in this directory lead to Ravelry because it provides searchable pattern information, sizing details and examples made by other knitters and crocheters.

We recognize that Ravelry is not accessible or comfortable for everyone. As this resource grows, we will add links to designers’ independent websites and alternative pattern sources wherever they are available.

Pattern availability, prices and sizing may change. Please consult the individual designer and pattern listing for current information.

Using What You Have

A successful project does not require newly purchased materials. Before choosing yarn, take a look through your stash. You may already have the beginning of your next sweater waiting for you.

When matching stash yarn to a pattern, consider:

  • the yarn weight;
  • the total metres or yards available—not simply the number of balls;
  • the fibre content and how the finished fabric will behave;
  • the pattern gauge;
  • the finished garment measurements; and
  • the amount of ease you prefer.

Discontinued, inherited, hand-dyed and leftover yarns can all become part of something new.

Growing the Maker Resource Library

More resources are coming, including:

  • understanding yarn weights and yardage;
  • substituting yarn in older or discontinued patterns;
  • measuring yourself and choosing a garment size;
  • understanding positive and negative ease;
  • swatching and adjusting gauge;
  • knitting and crochet tutorials;
  • finishing, mending and embellishment;
  • embroidery on knitted and crocheted fabric; and
  • finding guilds, groups and other makers in
    your community.
